Brian Abbott is a native of Caruthersville, Missouri with ten years of experience in vocational ministry as a United Methodist pastor, preceded by 44 years as a lifelong member of his local U.M. church. Before answering the call to become a pastor, he was a lay speaker, participated in the music ministry, volunteered with youth church activities, led Bible study, and served on numerous church committees. He also brings to the role of pastor, a wealth of life experiences gained as a husband, father, grandfather, and a 23-year secular career as a Juvenile Officer working with children and families in crisis. He finds great joy and purpose in sharing the love of Christ with others through teaching, preaching and simply setting the example of serving and loving one’s neighbors.
Brian is a graduate of Murray State University and is nearing completion of the United Methodist Local Pastor Course of Study School through St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. He has also led advanced lay speaker training courses and serves as a member of the New Places for New People District Innovation Team for the Southeast District of the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Brian and his best friend Anna, who also doubles as his wife, have four adult children,
as well as four grandchildren who are the delight of their lives!
“Anna & I are just ordinary people who have been called to do the extraordinary work of loving and leading others in the church’s mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” – Brian Abbott
